The challenge

Toe Fish Art sells thousands of art pieces through a catalog that had grown deep roots in WooCommerce: complex products with multiple variants, SKUs, MPNs, shipping classes, multiple markets, conditional logic, and years of customer data, order history and reviews. They needed it all on Shopify — on a tight timeframe, without losing search rankings, and with a store their customers (who skew older and shop heavily on mobile) would find faster and easier to use, not harder.

What I did

I planned and ran the full migration: advising on the right theme and apps for their catalog, moving every product with its variants and custom behavior intact, and carrying over customer accounts, order history, product reviews, SEO metadata and redirects so nothing that mattered got left behind. Where WooCommerce and Shopify genuinely differ — the "apples to oranges" problems every real migration hits — I built solutions rather than compromises.

Since launch I've stayed on as their developer: integrating email marketing, rebuilding transactional email templates, troubleshooting apps, and keeping an eye on analytics and Search Console.

The results

A Shopify store that's fast, clean and easy to manage — their words, not mine — launched on schedule with rankings and order history intact. A year on, Toe Fish Art is still a client, and their review of the project is the one I'd show anyone considering a migration.

In their words

Toe Fish Art

Outstanding Shopify Expert — Above and Beyond. We hired Jim to migrate our e-comm site from WooCommerce to Shopify, and the experience exceeded our expectations. This was not a simple migration, and we were on a tight timeframe. Our catalog includes thousands of complex products with multiple variants, SKUs, MPNs, shipping classes, multiple markets, conditional logic, SEO requirements, customer data, order history, reviews, redirects, and custom product behavior. On top of that, our primary customer base is a bit toward the older side, with heavy mobile usage; so performance, clarity, and UI/UX were critical. Jim demonstrated a thorough understanding of both WooCommerce and Shopify, and guided us through the process with patience, clarity, and expertise. We appreciated Jim’s advice on choosing and configuring the best theme and apps for our new Shopify store. Jim handled our extensive scope, was flexible as tasks evolved, and introduced solid solutions to the “apples to oranges” differences between our old platform and Shopify. The end result is a Shopify store that’s fast, clean yet attractive, easy to manage, economical, and user-friendly for our customers. What truly sets Jim apart is his listening comprehension skills, organization, attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and communication. We trust Jim’s extensive knowledge of Shopify, and we continue to work with him for periodic advice and assistance.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars.
